CHPA DIRECTOR
Timothy D.McBride, Ph.d. is a Professor of Health Management and Policy, Division Head of Health Policy, co-Director of the Doctoral program, and Director of the Center for Health Policy Analysis at the School of Public Health, Saint Louis University. Dr. McBride joined Saint Louis University in 2003 after spending 12 years at the University of Missouri-St. Louis as an Associate Professor in the Departments of Economics and Public Policy. He previously spent four years at the Urban Institute in Washington, D.C.
Dr. McBride, who received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin, focuses his research in the areas of health economics, health policy, and aging. In particular, most of his research has focused on Medicare policy, the uninsured and insurance markets, rural health, and long-term care. McBride is co-author of a book, several book chapters, and almost three dozen journal articles in these subject areas.
McBride is currently serving as a member on the nationally-recognized Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) Rural Health Panel, which provides advice and briefings on rural health issues to the U.S. Congress and other policymakers. This Panel received a Special Recognition Award from the National Rural Health Association for service to the rural health community in 2000. Dr. McBride is a member of several national committees and Boards, including the Advisory Board of the American Society of Health Economists (ASHE), Editorial Board for the Health Administration Press, Chair of the Health Policy Faculty Forum for AUPHA, the Editorial Board for the Journal of Rural Health, the Health Care Research and Training review panel for the Agency Health Care Quality (AHRQ), and the Methods Council for Academy Health. Dr. McBride was awarded the Teacher of the Year award by the University of Wisconsin Administrative Medicine Program in 1998. |
